NBA Week 10 Power Rankings: All-Star Snub Edition
By Corey Rausch
Last Week: Beat Denver Nuggets 123-115, Lost to Cleveland Cavaliers 112-111, Beat Boston Celtics 127-112, Lost to Oklahoma City Thunder 118-109
This Week: 2/28 at Miami Heat, 3/2 at Miami Heat, 3/3 at Orlando Magic
The Atlanta Hawks remain a frustrating case study in how a team is evolving. This week they beat the two teams on the schedule with playoff aspirations rather comfortably. Then, when they went up against two teams heading towards a lottery pick, they stumbled.
Tony Snell has moved into the starting lineup, telling you everything you need to know about the current state of the Atlanta Hawks. Trae Young did not make the All-Star Game after a disjointed, disappointing season derailed his momentum. He averaged 28.3 points and 10.5 assists per game this week but still leaves something to be desired when he does not get to the line much.
Danilo Gallinari was one of the stories of the week, exploding against the Boston Celtics. The veteran came off the bench and hit 10 3-point shots, finishing with 38 points and six rebounds. Gallinari has struggled with injuries this season but showed, at least for one night, exactly why the Hawks brought him into the fold.
As the season wears on, it is becoming increasingly clear that the expectations generated by the early season success had ballooned too far. If the Hawks make it into the play-in game at this point that should be considered a victory, especially if De’Andre Hunter is able to return.
