Great mentor for Wendell Carter

Moses Malone was the best center in the NBA while he was a member of the Houston Rockets. There was another basketball team in the city of Houston that rivaled the Rockets in popularity, the Houston University Cougars. Affectionately known as “Phi Slamma Jamma” for their high-flying dunks and fast-break style of play, many fans thought the college kids could give an NBA team a run for their money if given the chance.

The team’s star was Akeem Olajuwon, a young kid out of Nigeria who grew up as a soccer goalie until a teenage growth spurt made basketball the wise choice. During epic pickup games in the off-season, Malone taught the young Olajuwon how to play the game.

DeMarcus Cousins will have his own protege to tutor if he chooses to play in the Windy City. Wendell Carter is a physical young center with a high motor who’s shown improvement each year he’s been in the league. A naturally better athlete than Cousins, Carter does not possess the offensive weapons that made “Boogie” a match-up nightmare in his prime. With the proper tutelage from Cousins, Carter could become the interior presence the Bulls need to become an annual playoff team.

Since entering the league in 2010, DeMarcus Cousins has been one of the best big men in the NBA. Unfortunately, his time as an elite player is over. A man his size cannot sustain the injuries he’s dealt with and return to his former glory. However, he still has a lot to offer as a seasoned veteran and he would be a great addition to the right team. If Bulls fans are lucky, he’ll make Chicago his next destination.
