Trade candidate No. 7: Lonzo Ball
There’s a lot that can be said about Lonzo Ball. His overbearing father, his inconsistency and his weird jump shot have all kept him around the media circle during these first few seasons of his career.
The one thing you can’t deny about him is the immense talent that he carries with him. Entering the league, it quickly became clear that Lonzo is an elite player when it comes to playmaking and rebounding. His tremendously high basketball IQ has gifted us with countless highlight plays so far.
Once a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Lonzo struggled as he couldn’t control the game, playing a ball-dominant force such as LeBron James that likes to call the game on his own.
By getting traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, a new opportunity arose. This was a team that allowed him to control the tempo and be the primary ball-handler, a job we all know he excels at doing.
The Pelicans are a very exciting team, an experiment that might even lead to a great dynasty in a few years. Unfortunately for Lonzo, all these young stars around him seem to be neutralizing each other out somehow.
Fitting in with the likes of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram seems to be an issue for Lonzo at this point. If things don’t improve in New Orleans, it shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing him in a new jersey before the end of the season.
Lonzo could be the perfect addition to any team with a big point guard void to fill. The New York Knicks, the Orlando Magic or the Minnesota Timberwolves should all inquire about Lonzo’s availability, as he is by no means untouchable.
