Boston Celtics: 4 potential trade deadline candidates
Thaddeus Young
Another route the Boston Celtics could take is to go after an older veteran who can help over the next season or two and make the younger players feel more comfortable. That is what Thaddeus Young has done in Indiana during the last couple of seasons and in Chicago this year. He is still cheap enough for the Celtics to make a move, without much money guaranteed at 13.5 and 14.1 million dollars over the next two years, respectively.
He is a spark plug off the bench who can score double digits almost every night inside the paint. All around, he is a decent player and would be a great addition to the Celtics bench in desperate need of help. While one of the biggest issues for Boston is 2-point scoring, a weakness for Young, having another guy on the Celtics who can contribute offensively still helps.
It is hard to project the value of Thad Young on the market. While his on-court numbers are probably worth part of the TPE and a player or pick, he is one of the best locker room personalities in the league. Chicago is probably not willing to let him go for cheap assets. So a trade would likely depend on how the Bulls value their back up forward. Nevertheless, if the Celtics could get Young, he would be an influential addition to an otherwise struggling bench.
