3. The Knicks could get an early look at him before his free agency

Oladipo is going to get paid. The big fish like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George, and Rudy Gobert took themselves off the free agent market by signing extensions. Kawhi Leonard leaving the Clippers seems highly unlikely.

Oladipo could end up being the top name available in the upcoming offseason. If New York is really interested in him, they’d be wise to get a look at him up close before making a long-term financial commitment.

Knowing Oladipo’s health situation first-hand would be a massive benefit for any negotiations. We saw the Dallas Mavericks pass on giving a long-term deal to Chandler Parsons because they knew better. The Memphis Grizzlies weren’t as concerned, and it cost them dearly.

It’s not just about Oladipo’s uncertain health. New York should want a look at Oladipo’s on the court fit as well. Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley figure to be an essential part of the team’s future. Like Oladipo, they are all high usage players. There’s a chance that group may not mesh well.

How Oladipo handles playing for Tom Thibodeau is equally as important. The current roster has clearly bought into the new coach. It could go a long way for the franchise if a player of Oladipo’s name recognition gets on board.
