Valentine’s Day message for Karl-Anthony Towns

Daisy’s are gold

and we got you Russ

Everyone’s so glad you’re back

So please don’t leave us.

There is nobody in this league who has had a tougher season than Karl-Anthony Towns. Speaking strictly about the events that have happened to him off the court, Towns has had to go through more in the last year than a lot of people will have to go through in their lives. The fact that, through all of these, he’s even playinbasketball is astounding, and evidence to the case that there isn’t a single player in the NBA tougher than Towns.

What’s even more amazing is the level he’s been playing at. Though he’s only played in six games due to an injury and then a COVID-19 diagnoses, Towns has averaged 21.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game on a shooting split of .479/.419/.963.

During his extended absence while battling COVID-19, it became clear to everyone that this team has been built around Towns, and without him, they don’t have much. Though even with Towns returning, there’s still a lot of holes to fill. It would likely benefit Minnesota to acquire someone else who could carry the team while Towns and Russell are away. And the best person for this role is someone Minnesota fans have had their eye on for a while: Devin Booker.

There’s a long-established relationship between Towns, Russell, and Booker, and the trio have said in the past that it’s a goal in their careers to play together. A few years ago, before Minnesota sent Andrew Wiggins to acquire Russell, I was hesitant over the idea of torching a team just to get a star player or two who may leave in a few years, but the team’s play in recent weeks has changed my mind on this.

At this point, there is a very short list of players who would be untouchable in my mind for a Booker trade. If Minnesota can swing that, even if this season ends up as a failure, there will be legitimate hope for the immediate future, which Timberwolves fans haven’t felt in a long time.
