Valentine’s Day message for Malik Beasley

Roses are red

Violets are blue

I went out with you on a dare

But now I love you

At the start of the season, Malik Beasley was facing a big hurdle. Minnesota had just re-signed him to a major contract with big-time money, meaning they’d likely be looking at him in the starting role. However, he’d had a very controversial offseason. Between a criminal offense that was recently settled and a supposed affair with an NBA legend’s ex, if Beasley failed, the Timberwolves would likely have to cut ties with him, and they’d never hear the end of it.

Things certainly weren’t made any easier when he struggled to start the season, averaging 17.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, shooting a troubling 41.7 percent from the field and 25.0 percent shooting from 3-point range. But then, almost miraculously, Beasley heated up and turned his game around. Now, he’s averaging 21.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from 3-point range.

In a season that has held a lot of heartbreak and disappointment for the Wolves and their fans, Beasley’s play has been one major area of hope and optimism. Unlike his former Nuggets teammate Hernangomez, Beasley has been able to continue playing at the level he was performing at after being traded to the Timberwolves, if not outplaying it.

Beasley’s play has been more than enough to earn him the contract the Timberwolves offered this summer, and if he keeps up this level of production, he could be an easy frontrunner for the Most Improved Play of the Year award. Hopefully, Beasley will be able to control his actions off of the court so he can continue his level of production on it.
