Minnesota Timberwolves – Hold
The Minnesota Timberwolves roster is quite confusing. While the fit is not the biggest issue they have faced (Karl-Anthony Towns missing plenty of games due to injury and COVID-19 takes that honor) it certainly has not helped. Anthony Edwards should be one of the most featured players on the roster and even with Towns out and D’Angelo Russell missing time his role is still not where it should be.
All that being said, making a move right now is quite challenging. Towns and Russell have still only played five games together so understanding how the pieces fit around them is essentially just a guess. Giving up on the Russell experiment feels premature and is likely the quickest way to make Towns demand a trade.
Selling would make some sense for a team this low in the standings but tanking is not as easy as it sounds. The Timberwolves owe their first-round pick to the Golden State Warriors (top-three protected) so the risk is quite high of giving up a great asset just by continuing to lose. With that information moving on from Malik Beasley makes little sense. He has been the hub of their offense with Towns out and while he is positionally blocking Edwards right now it makes sense to keep him around.
So until the Timberwolves are able to see their full complement of talent on the court together for any reasonable amount of time it makes sense to keep on with what they have. The one prediction for this team is that they will keep their pick this year because the record is not going to get better even when they are healthy.
