Detroit Pistons free agency re-grade: Jahlil Okafor

Initial grade: F

I’m willing to eat a lot of crow in this re-grading article and without a doubt, there will be more mea culpa’s forthcoming from my direction, but I stand firm on this grade. Okafor’s signing came directly on the heels of Plumlee, which gave the Pistons more centers than any team should rightfully have at one time. So it was a shocking signing to begin with, and things haven’t gone much better since then.

Okafor’s offense has been fine, but he hasn’t provided much else and now he’s on the shelf for the next 6-to-8 weeks with a knee injury. The reason for the F then is different from the reason now, but this signing remains firmly planted in the F category.

Detroit Pistons free agency re-grade: Wayne Ellington

Initial grade: N/A

I didn’t have a grade for Wayne Ellington’s signing as it happened, but it would have been a B/B+ type grade. He was a cheap pickup who has a specific skill set, and he’s utilized it to great effect with the Pistons. He’s shot the lights out, and come the trade deadline he could be a solid trade chip for a contender in need of his abilities.

It’s another solid veteran signing for Troy Weaver.

Re-grade: B+
