First thing Derrick Rose trade brings to the New York Knicks – Experience and leadership

The New York Knicks are among the youngest teams in the association, with the average age of their roster being just 25.2 years old.

Upon arrival, Derrick Rose is now the second-oldest player on New York’s roster at 32-years-old, only behind the 35-year-old Taj Gibson, another former Tom Thibodeau standout playing for him with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and now, the New York Knicks. Thibodeau loves his veterans, and he certainly believes that both Rose and Gibson could be great locker room presences for all of the young guys.

Rose has always been a well-respected figure in the locker room among his peers throughout his NBA career. While there are many references, one recently comes from former teammate Frank Jackson of the Detroit Pistons, who shed light on what he learned during his short time with the former MVP, per Rod Beard of The Detroit News:

"“I didn’t realize how great of a leader he was. He really brings the squad together, gets guys fired up and he leads by example as well,” Jackson said. “It’s really cool to be around someone with as much knowledge and experiences as he has. I’ve looked up to him ever since I can remember, so it’s honestly unreal being around him.”"

For a New York team that is rather inexperienced, a well-distinguished veteran like Derrick Rose could be a great vocal presence to have. On top of that, the guy can still dish out his share of contributions for a team on the rise.
