Possible destination No. 3: Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets are in a pretty similar position, challenging for a playoff spot despite most people initially writing them off. They have been overachieving which is surprising to see after spending a bucketful of money on non-All-Star players.

Regardless of their recent surprising performances, they too have some weaknesses that need to be addressed if they consider themselves serious postseason threats. Michael Jordan could in fact turn to a former rival team and ask for help, at the hands of Julius Randle.

Whether it was his awful 2019-20 season, or his near-incredible campaign this year, it seems like Randle to the Hornets is a rumor that has been chewing everyone’s ear off. So realistically, there might be some traction between the two sides for the talented–soon to be–NBA All-Star.

The Charlotte Hornets have excelled at many things so far this year. Distributing the basketball has been their key area of expertise, as well as their defense and hustle. A field where they could really use some help is that of rebounding.

James Borrego’s team is amongst the five worst defensive rebounding teams in the league. Their “bigs” including P.J. Washington and Miles Bridges are not prolific rebounders, with none of the team’s members averaging more than 7 boards per game, other than Cody Zeller who has missed the majority of the games so far.

Julius Randle is currently fourth in the league in defensive rebounds per game and snatches home more boards than the aforementioned duo combined.

Due to the recent induction of LaMelo Ball into the starting lineup, the trio of Malik Monk, Devonte’ Graham and Terry Rozier is destined to break up once and for all. It’s just a matter of time as to who ends up with any of these talented guards.
