New York Knicks: 5 teams that need a Julius Randle trade
Possible destination No. 5: Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics possess one of the best trios around the league. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker have all glued together perfectly, since the moment they started sharing a court last season.
Although the scoring has been off the charts with these three, none of them can actually boast about having any specific playmaking skills. Al Horford’s presence was really helpful around the young stars but his departure has left a gaping hole in the team’s offense.
Watching the game film of a great defensive team like the Knicks against them tells you all you need to know. In that game, Boston managed to score a total of 75 points while shooting 29.8 from the field and 15.2 percent from three.
Julius Randle might not be as good of a scorer as any of these three, but his playmaking skills are apparent. Very few big men have showcased similar abilities throughout the history of the league. It is a fairly fresh trend that most big men struggle to follow.
This year, Randle has been running the team’s offense under Thibodeau and is averaging a career-high 6.0 assists per game which is almost double his previous career-high. This year, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Draymond Green and Nikola Jokic are the only big men that are distributing the ball at a higher rate than Randle.
A trade package involving either one of Grant Williams, Romeo Langford or Aaron Nesmith, along with the addition of some draft compensation should be enough as a return for Randle.
