50 greatest NBA players from the 1990s — 44. James Worthy
A four-time All-Star and an NBA Finals MVP in the 1980s, James Worthy still had some game as the 1990s dawned, earning three more All-Star bids and two All-NBA nods in the new decade.
Worthy finished fourth in the NBA in minutes per game in 1991-92, but was limited to 54 games by a knee injury and his minutes began to decline afterward.
He did help the Lakers to the 1991 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Chicago Bulls in five games. Worthy averaged 19.3 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in 41 minutes per game in the Finals, shooting .479/1-for-6/6-for-9.
Worthy retired from the NBA in November 1994.
In the 1990s, Worthy averaged 17.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 32.2 minutes per game, shooting .475/.277/.792.
In 1997, Worthy was named to the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
