In the late 2000s and right through the 2010s, the NBA “Big 3 era” was in full effect. You could say the Spurs started this era, but it really kicked off when the Boston Celtics assembled Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett.

Then the next Big 3 was formed by the Miami Heat with the “Heatles” Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron James. The era saw a bunch of Big 3s formed, both successful and unsuccessful.

The Golden State Warriors arguably had a Big 4 with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant. While OKC formed the Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony, that fraudulent Big 3 that fizzled in the first round.

The NBA transitioned from Big 3s into big 2s in the 2019 offseason — starting when the Lakers acquired Anthony Davis and formed the first Big 2 with LeBron James.

Later that offseason Kevin Durant moved onto Brooklyn and Kyrie Irving soon joined him as the second “Big 2” in the NBA. That offseason was capped off by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George heading to the LA Clippers forming the third most dangerous Big 2 of this era.

The NBA’s best big 3s

All of this is to illustrate that the NBA goes through phases, and it looks like the NBA is bouncing back into a big 3 era.

Last season we saw the Miami Heat make a finals appearance with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic and the Milwaukee Bucks added Jrue Holiday to their core of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton — this has all been solidified by James Harden being traded to the Brooklyn Nets this season.

So, who are the best NBA big 3s this season? Let’s find out.
