Does this trade work for the Washington Wizards?

The Wizards give up the best player in the deal, but they get four firsts for their trouble as well as two young lottery tickets, Reggie Bullock and Julius Randle. They might even be able to remain competitive with Randle out there fighting for every inch of the floor, even if Russell Westbrook continues to be ineffective.

The fact of the matter is that the Wizards are destined to go nowhere as currently constructed. It doesn’t matter if Beal scores 40, 50 or 60 points, his team can’t win around him. Whether we can accurately place blame on him for not being effective on defense, you simply can’t have a player scoring this efficiently and be unable to win when he goes off once in a while.

To get out of this quagmire, they have to cash in on Beal’s trade value and build their own stockpile of draft assets and young players. A star-in-the-making like Randle could go a long way, whether he be best-used as a trade chip down the road or as a cornerstone of whatever comes next for this organization.

With the number of teams that have gone all-in to win now around the NBA, there aren’t many left that have the draft capital and players that it takes to get a Beal deal done. The New York Knicks can, and this deal works for the Washington Wizards.
