Does this trade work for the Knicks?

The Knicks would be giving up their own centerpiece in Randle, a 3-point marksman in Reggie Bullock and two young prospects in Kevin Knox and Frank Ntilikina, as well as a hefty amount of draft capital with two of their own first-rounders and their two Dallas first-rounders. They would be getting back the league’s leading scorer in return, and possibly the best trade chip the league has seen this season even though James Harden was just on the market.

This deal pales in comparison with the package the Brooklyn Nets had to give up for Harden, including four firsts and three pick swaps, but the Wizards may find that at this point in time there’s no better deal on offer. With Beal on their roster, it’s likely the Knicks won’t have a top pick over the next few seasons at the very least, so the value of those picks diminishes.

It’s likely that Knox and Ntilikina won’t ever end up being more than decent role players in the NBA, and those aren’t too hard to find. On the other hand, you don’t get a chance to trade for a player like Bradley Beal very often, so if four picks, your resurgent star in Julius Randle, two underwhelming young players and an expiring Bullock are the cost of doing business, it’s a deal the Knicks have to do.

This trade works for the New York Knicks.
