NBA Power Rankings Week 6: Are the Los Angeles Lakers on top?
By Corey Rausch
Last Week: Lost to Detroit Pistons 119-104, Beat Los Angeles Lakers 107-106, Beat Minnesota Timberwolves 118-94
This Week: 1/31 at Indiana Pacers, 2/3 at Charlotte Hornets, 2/4 vs. Portland Trail Blazers, 2/6 vs. Brooklyn Nets
As we will see with a team later, a loss to the Detroit Pistons is less than ideal to your standings on this list. The reason the Philadelphia 76ers do not slide is that that loss came without the current MVP front runner before they turned around and knocked off the Los Angeles Lakers.
Philadelphia is far from a perfect team but the evolution from last season is clear. Ben Simmons is showing signs that he will get increasingly comfortable in his new role as an ancillary option on offense as the pieces around him thrive. Joel Embiid, as previously mentioned, is playing like the MVP of the league and is the anchor of the defense.
The Tobias Harris game-winner against the Lakers put an exclamation point on what has been a great year for him so far. The game almost got away from the Sixers but Harris was not going to let that happen.
It is a stat-padding week for Philadelphia before they run into the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. The Sixers have been feasting on one of the easiest schedules so far but the win against the Los Angeles Lakers shows that they can compete with even the best teams in the league.
