LA Clippers: Trade target No. 1 – Terry Rozier, Charlotte Hornets
Currently running point for the Charlotte Hornets, Terry Rozier is an under-the-radar name for teams to inquire about on the trade market. According to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, the LA Clippers reportedly explored a trade for Rozier this offseason.
Although they missed out on him then, the Clippers should revisit those trade discussions involving the guard, as he is currently putting up career numbers with the Hornets. Throughout 18 games, Rozier is averaging 18.9 points on a .464/.421/.731 slash line, four rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals in 33.8 minutes per game. Numbers like that could surely give LA the upgrade at point guard that they are seeking to form a lethal trio alongside Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Despite talks going nowhere in the offseason, perhaps the Hornets would be more open to moving the guard through trade now, give the emergence of LaMelo Ball. Charlotte selected Ball third overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, and the 19-year-old has shown significant promise throughout his first 18 games. However, he has come off the bench in every game this season due to Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham occupying the backcourt. Moving either of them would open the door for Ball to slip into the starting lineup, which appears to be more feasible by the day.
If so, the LA Clippers need to make a strong push for Terry Rozier. Although piecing together an enticing package to acquire his $36.8 combined salary over the next two seasons could be challenging, the Clippers must find a way if it is on the table.
