It is not a secret that the LA Clippers need a true point guard running the floor.

It was evident in last year’s postseason debacle that the team needed another distributor, which helped play into their demise. After their collapse against the Denver Nuggets in the second round, it seemed reasonable to believe adding a new point guard would be high up on their to-do list in the offseason.

Two names that immediately came to mind were Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul, a pair of Hall of Fame floor generals that would be available in free agency or through trade. Either of those players would have been fantastic fits for LA, but the Clippers missed out on both. The Clippers surprisingly did not make any other moves to add the piece they were looking for at the point guard position even with those two off the board.

With several options still available, the LA Clippers should look to add a point guard ahead of the NBA’s trade deadline.

It was a questionable decision by the LA Clippers, and the lack of that true point guard has been on full display in the early going this season. LA is currently tied for 13th in team assists per game at 24.8 per game, but that number can shift drastically on a nightly basis, given how jam-packed the standings are.

Nevertheless, the Clippers are off to a fantastic start this season with a 13-5 record, sitting at third in the loaded Western Conference standings. They are a team that will be jockeying for positioning at the top of the Western Conference all throughout the year, and they have the requisite pieces to make them a title contender for the second consecutive season.

While Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are playing some of the best basketball of their careers, the team’s need for a point guard will loom large as the season progresses. Their current rotation at the position consists of Patrick Beverley and Reggie Jackson, two serviceable players, but neither will push them over the edge.

With the NBA trade deadline set for March 25th, the LA Clippers have time, but here are five point guards they should consider trading for in the meantime to fill a much-needed vacancy.
