Ideal JJ Redick landing spot No.3: Dallas Mavericks

If the way he used Seth Curry is any indication, Rick Carlisle and JJ Redick will get along just fine. This trade actually works for all parties involved. The Mavericks get a much-needed proven shooter, James Johnson will bring grit and toughness to a Pelicans team that currently ranks 25th in defensive rating, and Redick will finally be pout in spots to be successful.

The Mavericks have title hopes which is a plus for Redick at this stage of his career, but they do have a tough road to the promised land playing in the same conference as the defending champion and title favorite, Los Angeles Lakers.

Dallas is tied with the OKC Thunder for the worst 3-point percentage in the league (33.1), despite shooting the 12th-most 3-pointers per game (36.6). JJ Redick can certainly help in that department. The Mavericks are one of the best floor-spacing teams despite their shooting woes and have one of the league’s premier playmakers, Luka Doncic.

After trading the younger Curry this past offseason, the Mavericks have struggled to find any consistent perimeter shooting outside of TIm Hardaway Jr, Maxi Kleber, Trey Burke, and Jalen Brunson.  Adding a sharpshooter like Redick to the fold should open up the floor even more and give the Mavericks a major boost in the shooting department.

A change of scenery and an inevitable uptick in usage should do wonders for Redick as he looks to end his early-season struggles. Sooner or later he’s bound to break out of his slump and start scorching basketball nets around the league.
