Following last season’s Cinderella story, the Miami Heat have had a rough start to the 2020-21 NBA season. A start of 6-9 is certainly not reflective of the holding Eastern Conference champions and their overall abilities.

The Miami Heat are currently sitting 13th in their conference rankings and have one of the worst records around the league. Should they really go into panic mode, though?

The team has been struck down by multiple minor injuries that have prevented the dynamic of last year’s group from going into full display. Two of their biggest stars in Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro have in fact missed about two weeks of action now, though they are set to return very soon.

Even though we’ve established that this is not how this season’s going to unravel, the Heat are not amongst the elite in their conference. They were considered dark horse contenders last year and failed to improve via free agency.

On the opposing field, their immediate threats all took a few extra steps towards contending. As a result, there appear to be a handful of teams that are more ready to compete for the ultimate prize, in comparison to the Heat that are sticking to the culture.

The Miami Heat’s struggles could be fixed with a trade for Victor Oladipo

Were the Heat to start looking for trade candidates, their list would not be very long at this very moment. Luckily for them, there seems to be a pair of players tailored exactly to Miami’s needs and philosophy.

These players are Victor Oladipo and P.J. Tucker. Both now members of the Houston Rockets, it remains unsure whether the team plans to keep them or not. The Rockets are undergoing a rebuilding process and expiring veterans have very little use in a situation like that.

The Heat are a heavily defensive team and pulling the trigger on these moves would send a signal to whatever offensive superteams may be out there in the Eastern Conference. But how exactly could this move benefit both sides?
