NBA Power Rankings Week 5: How good are the Utah Jazz?
By Corey Rausch
Last Week: 1/17 at Oklahoma City Thunder (POSTPONED), Beat Boston Celtics 117-109, Beat Boston Celtics 122-110, Beat Detroit Pistons 114-110
This Week: 1/25 at Detroit Pistons, 1/27 vs. Los Angeles Lakers, 1/29 at Minnesota Timberwolves
What a week for the Philadelphia 76ers. By the end of the week, the entire team was back together, out of health and safety protocols and they have won every game they played. The game against the Detroit Pistons was the closest but that could be chalked up to the fatigue of getting back together and playing three games in four days.
Joel Embiid is unstoppable right now. He dropped at least 30 points in every game this week, including 42 points against the Boston Celtics. He is continuing to build his resume as an MVP candidate and it is getting increasingly tough to argue against it. While the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks continue to figure out their lineups, the Sixers continue to look like the best team in the East on a night-to-night basis.
Ben Simmons even seems to be snapping out of the mini funk he was in following his involvement in trade rumors. Like the rest of the non-Embiid Sixers, Simmons plays his role perfectly and the team is thriving together. Getting Seth Curry back really puts them over the top. Being able to bring both Tyrese Maxey and Shake Milton off the bench is the kind of advantage only contenders have.
