Denver Nuggets: The cons of making a Victor Oladipo trade

While Victor Oladipo would be a great fit for the Denver Nuggets, he does not come without his share of risks to consider beforehand. First and foremost, any team that lands Oladipo must consider that he will likely be a one-year rental. The guard will enter free agency this offseason after collecting the remaining $21 million of his salary and could potentially have his eyes set on heading to South Beach as soon as possible.

As The Ringers’ Kevin O’Connor mentioned in his aforementioned reporting, Oladipo preferred to land with the Miami Heat before he got sent to Houston, which remains his ideal destination. With that in mind, teams will certainly be hesitant to make a move for the star guard with no guarantee that he will stay there for the long term future, especially depending on the Rockets’ demand in return.

Denver has the necessary assets to potentially put together an enticing trade package to Houston’s liking. However, with Oladio’s future currently a mystery, the Nuggets might consider not putting their potential future assets at risk if another top-tier target with more contract stability becomes available, say, Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards.

All in all, it depends on where the Denver Nuggets believe they sit right this moment. Winning their last two games, the organization could be content with sticking with this current roster and hoping they can continue turning things around. On the other hand, if they want to go all-in on pursuing a title this season, they could swing a trade for Victor Oladipo to form a lethal trio in Denver.
