How Zach LaVine can help the Chicago Bulls win more games
Zach LaVine should constantly pressure opposing defenders with his athleticism
On Monday night against the Houston Rockets, Zach LaVine threw down a two-handed windmill off of two feet. It was a tremendous display of athleticism, reminiscent of the “Human Highlight Reel,” Dominique Wilkins.
The fact is, despite his ever-expanding offensive arsenal, LaVine is still one of the best leapers and finishers in the game of basketball. While it takes a variety of skills to average 27.4 points per game, Zach should never forget that his other-worldly athleticism is one of the reasons he has a chance to be one of the NBA’s elite.
Out of the top ten scorers in the league, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal all average more free throw attempts per game than LaVine. The Greek Freak is the only player among them who can match Zach’s athleticism. If opposing defenders are not as quick and cannot jump as high, he must make them pay by driving into the paint.
Defenses will either collapse, which will open up shots for his teammates, or they will foul him. LaVine is a career 82.2 percent shooter from the free throw line so he’s proven to be more than reliable from the charity stripe. His ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim is a problem defenders can’t solve. He has to make them pay.
The Chicago Bulls are an improving team, having played above .500 since losing the first three games of the season. There is still plenty of time to capitalize on the positive momentum they have and find their way back to the playoffs. They’re going to need a big performance from Zach LaVine if this is to happen. If the beginning of this season is any indication, he’s up for the challenge.
