Getting others involved is Zach LaVine’s responsibility

Nikola Jokic once said, “A point makes you happy; an assist makes two people happy.” While “The Joker” has been blessed with a rare capacity for play-making his point can’t be overlooked. Creating opportunities for others can pay dividends as the season goes on.

To be fair the 5.3 assists per game Zach LaVine averages are not bad, especially for a player who is rightly the team’s best scoring option. The Chicago Bulls would not benefit from LaVine morphing into a pass-first player. However, a little more play-making from their best player certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Of the five players in the league with a higher scoring average than LaVine, only the Washington Wizard’s Bradley Beal is averaging fewer assists. The other four are finding more ways to involve their teammates throughout the course of the game while still being asked to carry a heavy scoring load.

Asking the former UCLA Bruin to create more opportunities for others while still getting buckets is a lot indeed. But LaVine has publicly stated he once to be looked at as a franchise player. Carrying a proud franchise back to the playoffs is a tough task. Getting your teammates involved is just one aspect.
