Cleveland Cavaliers rotation: Bench Mob

For years, the Cleveland Cavaliers have struggled to maintain depth. It seems this problem may finally be resolved as their second unit is beginning to show promise. These are the guys who will receive a chunk of minutes nearly every night.

Jarrett Allen

One of the Cavaliers’ newest additions, Jarrett Allen will likely be a foundational member of the team once he is fully integrated. We can expect him to play significant minutes off the bench behind Andre Drummond and learn from the veteran big man.

Allen is only 22 years of age but he is already in the upper echelon of rim protectors. Allen is averaging 1.6 blocks per game and will be a constant double-double threat in the Cavs lineup. Watching him roll to the hoop next to Garland and Sexton is going to be a ton of fun.

Larry Nance Jr.

There may not be a more impactful player on the Cavaliers than Larry Nance. Similar to players like Draymond Green and Kyle Lowry, his value doesn’t always correlate to the stat sheet. But don’t get it mistaken, Nance is huge to this team.

The Cavs have a Net Rating of negative 7.7 with Nance off the court – one of the worst drops of anyone on the roster. His versatility as a defender, playmaker and occasional shooter is irreplaceable to this squad and we can expect to see Nance in the rotation for a long time..

Cedi Osman

Cedi Osman is as streaky as they come from the floor but his early role as sixth man seemed to be the best position for the 25-year-old.

Osman is averaging a career-high 13.1 points on underwhelming shooting splits of below 40 percent. However, much of his struggles have come during a low point for the team as a whole. Once the lineup is at full strength, Osman will revert to his more comfortable role as a spark plug shooter with the second unit.

Taurean Prince

Another member of the James Harden blockbuster trade, Taurean Prince can help the Cavaliers with his 3-and-D capabilities. Prince averaged 14.1 points on 38.5 percent shooting as a sophomore in Atlanta before taking on a smaller job in Brooklyn. At 26 years of age, Prince still has plenty to offer the Cavaliers.

A wing player with versatility on both ends of the floor is everything a modern NBA team needs. It might take some time for Prince to earn minutes over Osman – but don’t’ be surprised if he becomes an important member of the team.

Damyean Dotson

Before all of the injuries opened up a path to more playing time, Damyean Dotson would have been an end-of-rotation player for the Cavaliers. But, he has impressed during his time as the team’s only point guard and likely earned more minutes as a result.

Dotson is averaging 14.8 points and 5.3 assists in his last four games and will be in the rotation as a backup guard for Sexton and Garland.

*Kevin Porter Jr.

While it seems almost certain Kevin Porter’s time in Cleveland has come to an end, we still have hope the two sides will somehow repair relationships before a deal is made.

Porter is arguably the most talented prospect on the roster and it would hurt to lose him. If he somehow returns to the floor in a Cavaliers uniform, Porter would be a key rotational player. Hopefully, this situation ends with Porter being in the greatest position for future success both on and off the court.
