What a Victor Oladipo trade looks like for the New York Knicks

Let’s get down to business. The Rockets want to trade Oladipo while his value is still pretty high and the Knicks have to show the NBA world that they can make the necessary changes to compete for a playoff spot. As a result, the clock is ticking for both teams.

Judging from the specific part of the trade that just happened, which saw Oladipo basically being traded in exchange for Caris LeVert, we can safely assume that his trade value is not sky-high. Consequently, the Rockets would not expect any star in return for him.

The young duo of Dennis Smith Jr. and Frank Ntilikina can take over the rotational point guard minutes, an area in which the Rockets seriously lack depth. Due to John Wall’s proneness to injury, the Rockets should definitely look into these two as his backup options.

Smith and Ntilikina will be ready to take over as Wall’s successors in a few years. The first one has shown great offensive and athletic capabilities, the latter has proved to be an elite perimeter defender even against the league’s best.

The addition of Alec Burks will hopefully supplement the scoring void left by the departure of James Harden. Burks, only having played 3 games so far, has had Knicks fans very excited about his imminent return. In these games, he averaged 20.7 points per game on some out-of-this-world shooting percentages.

The New York Knicks, on the other hand, get Victor Oladipo, a player that immediately slides into the starting shooting guard spot. Reggie Bullock has been a great defensive surprise this season, but let’s not kid ourselves by comparing these two.

Trading for Victor Oladipo should be the team’s number one priority should he become available in the trade market. A player that is destined to work in Tom Thibodeau’s system, Oladipo can become a cornerstone in Knicks basketball for the following years.
