The Houston Rockets’ perspective

By trading away both James Harden and Russell Westbrook, all within the span of 45 days, the Houston Rockets basically announced their rebuilding process to the rest of the NBA. The fact that they actively pursued to receive an immense number of draft picks tells you all you need to know about their intentions for the future.

As a result, a soon-to-be 29 years of age Victor Oladipo that is set to receive a near-maximum long-term contract doesn’t really fit the schematic of their franchise as a whole. The best thing they would hope to do is capitalize on his high value as early as possible.

Oladipo apparently doesn’t want to be a part of Houston’s rebuilding process and has his eye set on a move to the Miami Heat. The New York Knicks, second in running for the former All-Star could take advantage of Miami’s reluctance to part ways with their key squad members.

As per the Rockets, if they were to pursue a trade for Victor Oladipo, very few teams could throw better packages their way. A selection of young and promising players as well as a draft pick or two should be more than enough to convince the Texans.

Additionally, in the hypothetical Heat-Rockets trade talks, there is almost no chance at all that Miami would be willing to throw in anything more than a couple of rotational players and a draft pick. Could this force the Rockets to look elsewhere?
