Brooklyn Nets: 4 available big men to consider in free agency
By Corey Rausch
The Brooklyn Nets made the league-altering move to bring in James Harden. However, doing so left them with a thin frontcourt. How can they change that?
Making the trade for James Harden can and will be debated throughout his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets. The offense will be explosive (as seen in the team’s win against the Orlando Magic on Saturday) but there is one weakness of the roster that needs to be addressed.
Jarrett Allen was blossoming into a star this season and was the clear best big man on the roster. Furthermore, he was only one of two centers seeing playing time for a team now paper-thin at that position. Best friend of the stars Deandre Jordan finds himself back in the starting lineup after being benched out of necessity. Nicolas Claxton is an intriguing young prospect but has been sidelined with knee tendinitis.
This is not to say the team should have been hesitant to move on from Allen to bring in Harden. It is James Harden after all. But the team will need some semblance of rebounding to compete when the shots are not falling at the expected clip. The team could look to trade for a big man (Jahlil Okafor and JaVale McGee could be available) or await the buyout market (maybe Andre Drummond) to add to their depth.
But what if they choose to not wait that long. The Brooklyn Nets have three open roster spots at the moment and could look to bring in someone now to see if they can make a difference and clear up some roster questions. We will take a look at four possible options they should consider to add some big man depth.
