Cleveland Cavaliers: Andre Drummond is a necessary chaos
By Tony Pesta
Andre Drummond’s presence has had a massive impact on the Cleveland Cavaliers – in both extremely negative and positive ways.
Finding a way to describe Andre Drummond is nearly impossible. Very few players in NBA history are capable of simultaneously being the best and worst player on any given night. The Cleveland Cavaliers are finding out the hard way that everything good Drummond does comes with a necessary price.
Drummond is one of the NBA’s greatest anomalies. He can somehow post statistics of 18 points, 17 rebounds, six blocks and four steals, yet still hold a plus/minus of negative 5 in the Cavaliers’ loss to the New York Knicks. How is it that someone so dominant on the stat sheet can be so unimpactful in determining the outcome of games?
For years, Drummond has been a double-double machine. He’s led the league in rebounding four times and is on pace to do it again this year. Nonetheless, it’s difficult to gauge how beneficial it really is to have him on the floor. This is because his performances are consistently chaotic and his actual impact varies on a play-to-play basis.
He is the definition of hit or miss. Depending on his energy level, Drummond can single-handedly elevate or derail his team. This is enough to make Cavs’ fans enraged when he blows a game, but, in the end, Drummond might be a necessary evil for the Cavaliers.
Let’s take a look at what Drummond does to hurt and help his team – and why his erratic performances are worth it in the long run.
