29. . 2-3. Previous: 15th. San Antonio Spurs. 17. team

Last Week: Lost to New Orleans Pelicans 98-95, Lost to Los Angeles Lakers 121-107, Lost to the Los Angeles 109-103

This Week: 1/3/2021 vs. Utah Jazz, 1/5/2021 at LA Clippers, 1/7/2021 at Los Angeles Lakers, 1/9/2021 at Minnesota Timberwolves

The San Antonio Spurs were unable to grab a win this week but they have generated more in positive impressions than a win would have garnered them. This team plays a fun brand of basketball and they already feel much more competitive than was to be expected.

The young players have been fun to follow to this point. Dejounte Murray and Derrick White feel like the backcourt of the future. Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker IV pop off the screen with highlight plays that allude to the promise of more.

Even some of the veterans have been promising. DeMar DeRozan has already made seven 3-pointers this season. He made nine total last season. If this is the type of trend that continues, the Spurs will likely be judging the trade market before long.

DeRozan, and to a lesser extent, LaMarcus Aldridge are expiring contracts. If they are to be productive for an extended period of time, this rebuild could be faster than expected.

Despite these revelations, the biggest point of the week was Becky Hammon finally getting her moment to be the head coach after Gregg Popovich was ejected against the Los Angeles Lakers. She has more than earned this opportunity and this is hopefully the next step into her being named a head coach in full during the next offseason. Any franchise would be lucky to have her directing their future.
