San Antonio Spurs starting lineup: Locks, fringe, potential break-ins
San Antonio Spurs starting lineups: Potential Break-ins
Trey Lyles
The sharpshooting big man had his best season from deep in 2019-20. He shot the ball at 38.7 percent on 2.7 shot attempts from deep. This is a great rebound season from his last one with the Denver Nuggets where he hit 25.5 percent. Unfortunately, Lyles is not very strong defensively so it is a toss-up between his floor spacing or his lack of defense. He did start 53 games for the Spurs last season.
Patty Mills
The Australian veteran has been a career sixth man but that was on Spurs teams who were winning. Coach Gregg Popovich is not going to be happy having a second season where he misses the playoffs He is a long shot to make the starting lineup but if things are not going well for the Spurs then Popovich will usually go the route less traveled.
Devin Vassell
The rookie Devin Vassell has a tremendous opportunity to make his mark on a Spurs team that looks to be transitioning to a younger core. He looks like he has a mind for defense, and can shoot the ball very well. It is going to take a good portion of the season for the Spurs to start Vassell but if he gets in the lineup, he will eventually make them better.
