Prediction #2: De’Aaron Fox Averages 8+ Assists

De’Aaron Fox is the most important player on the Sacramento Kings’ roster and the quarterback of their offensive attack. He signed a hefty extension in the offseason which will tie him to the franchise for the next five years, and he hopes to get started on the right foot by putting up a career year in 2020-21.

Fox’s numbers were down across the board last season. His shooting percentages regressed, as did his assist numbers, culminating in an overall disappointing season despite an uptick in points per game. He will look to bounce back this year, and an improvement in the assist category feels imminent.

After averaging a career-high 7.3 assists per game in 2018-19, Fox’s number dropped to 6.8 last year. He became less of a facilitator when the team needed him to be in constant attack mode, which could be one factor in the numbers dip. There was also the almost-forced integration of the half-court offense that was stressed by head coach Luke Walton, which may have taken Fox out of some of his natural playing style.

This season, Fox will have another year of familiarity with his usual running mates, and the Kings will (supposedly) get back to a high-paced offensive attack, which could lead to more assist opportunities for their point guard. He will also have the benefit of a few healthy and athletic big men who could become lob partners with some more familiarity. All of this will add up to a career-high for De’Aaron Fox, as he will surpass eight assists per game for the first time.
