What are the Chicago Bulls doing? Ostensibly this team looks to get better and compete for the playoffs. They fired possibly the worst coach in the league and replaced him with Billy Donovan. But figuring out exactly how their roster fits and if they got better in any way is tough to piece together.
Zach LaVine had a career year but is miscast as the number one option on a team. Coby White was a good scorer off the bench but does not seem to be a leader of an offense. Lauri Markkanen was a shell of himself as he dealt with injuries. Wendell Carter only appeared in 43 games. They are still somehow paying Otto Porter Jr. $28.5 million this season.
Patrick Williams was one of the polarizing prospects entering the draft and the Chicago Bulls decided to take him all the way at number four. There is potential there that he could be a star, but that potential will likely take years to realize. He is raw and did not start a game at Florida State last season.
Where the Bulls go from here is hard to put together. They seem primed for a trade to try to get the roster back in order. Until everything fits together, it’s hard to predict any sort of success for the team in the short term.
