New York Knicks: 3 must-watch storylines this season
2. How will the point guard rotation look like?
If you’re Tom Thibodeau, then you’ve got a real situation in your hands. For the first time in forever, the Knicks have a stacked point guard rotation, filled with guys that have yet to make their mark in the league but pack immense talent in their hands.
You’ve got the playmaking Elfrid Payton. The defensive monster in Frank Ntilikina. Shooting-wise, Immanuel Quickley and Myles Powell are your guys. If explosiveness is what you seek, then look no further than Dennis Smith Jr. and his tremendous athleticism.
As a result, nobody knows how the point guard rotation is going to pan out and quite frankly, these preseason games haven’t helped sort our judgment. The only thing that matters is if Thibodeau knows, which he hopefully does by now.
So far, Smith and Quickley have been the ones to stand out the most, with the others falling a tad behind, apart from Powell who has yet to officially suit up for the New York Knicks. Unfortunately, though, efficiency seems to be an issue for every one of them.
With so many point guards of the same level, it is very likely that we see every single one of them start at least once for the team this season. Players get hot, others get cold. Rotating his point guards is something that Thibodeau is going to have to get used to doing a lot this year.
