The Dallas Mavericks are one of the NBA’s most exciting teams and they have an MVP candidate in Luka Doncic. What should you watch for this season?

The Dallas Mavericks pushed the LA Clippers in the playoffs last season and showed the NBA why they were a threat to be reckoned with. This season, Luka Doncic is a year older and should be ready to take his leap from the likes of great young players to the realm of the best players in the world.

They’ll be missing Kristaps Porzingis to start the season, but there’s a lot to like about where this team is going in an ultra-competitive Western Conference. Let’s take a look at the three biggest storylines to watch this season for the Mavs.

1. How long with the Dallas Mavericks be without Kristaps Porzingis?

The Dallas Mavericks lost Porzingis two games before their eventual ousting at the hands of the Clippers. He suffered a torn right meniscus and after undergoing surgery earlier this year won’t begin doing on-court work until at least January 1st.

While the Mavs are a deep team that was more than able to hold their own when Porzingis and Doncic were both off the floor last season, he’s still going to be an important piece of the puzzle. In a Western Conference where basically every team from the 3-seed to the 9-seed may be in a battle for their spot, it’s important they stay afloat without him until he’s able to get back healthy.
