Johnny Neumann. 14. player. 532. . SF. Rebels

Best NBA player who played for Ole Miss Rebels — Johnny Neumann

  • All-Rookie First Team

Frankly, Johnny Neumann’s NBA career wasn’t much to write home about. He played a total of 83 NBA games, averaging 5.6 points and splitting time between Buffalo, Los Angeles, and Indiana between 1976 and 1978. Neumann’s greatest accomplishments came in the ABA, where he started his career and was named to the All-Rookie First Team.

Nuemann’s first two ABA seasons in Memphis were his best. He averaged over 18 points per game both years, and he looked the part of an up-and-coming talent. Unfortunately, he was labeled a ball-hog by some and traded to the Utah Stars in 1973, after which he was never the same.

For Nuemann, it’s his college resume that impresses. He was a dominant scorer at Ole Miss, averaging 40.1 points per game as a sophomore. He registered multiple games with over 60 points, and as a result was named SEC Player of the Year in 1971. Neumann was drafted by Chicago in 1973, but opted to begin his career in the ABA.

Runner-up: Gerald Glass — Glass played four NBA seasons and averaged 11.5 points per game at his peak in 1991-92.

515. . SG. Ducks . Steve Jones. 23. player

Best NBA player who played for Oregon Ducks — Steve Jones

  • 3X All-Star

Steve Jones is another player who did very little in the NBA. He finished his career with Portland in 1975-76, his only NBA season. He averaged 6.5 points and appeared in 64 games. He was a star, however, in the ABA.

A three-time All-Star, Jones — nicknamed ‘Snapper’ — averaged 16.0 points and 3.7 rebounds across 640 ABA games. He spent seven years in the league, hopping from Oakland, to New Orleans, to Memphis, to Dallas, to Carolina. He never registered a technical foul.

In three seasons at Oregon, Jones averaged 12.1 points and 7.3 rebounds. He led the Ducks in scoring as a senior, contributing as both a shooter and a slasher.

Runner-up: Terrell Brandon — Brandon was a productive 5-foot-11 point guard who split most of his career between Cleveland and Minnesota. He made two All-Star appearances in 1996 and 1997.
