Rookie of the Year

Tyrese Haliburton (+1600)

Onyeka Okongwu (+2000)

The three players that were taken at the top of the 2020 NBA Draft are certainly the odds on favorites to win the Rookie of the Year award this season, but there are a couple of players further down the board that may present the best value.

One interesting prospect to keep an eye on will be Tyrese Haliburton of the Sacramento Kings. Regarded by many as the steal of the draft, Haliburton will have the luxury of playing alongside one of the most athletic young point guards in the NBA in De’Aaron Fox. Fox has created opportunities for backcourt teammates like Buddy Hield for multiple years and could do the same for Haliburton.

Speaking of Hield, there is thought that a trade could be on the horizon for the reigning 3-Point Contest champion. This would almost certainly thrust Haliburton into the starting lineup, and an increase of minutes would mean increased chances of winning Rookie of the Year. The 14/1 value here may be one of the better bets on the entire board.

Depending on which direction that the Atlanta Hawks head with their frontcourt, Onyeka Okongwu could be thrust into a position of heavy minutes and usage for a rookie big man. He certainly won’t be the focal point of an offense that predominantly features Trae Young, so there will not be any immediate pressure on him like there will be for LaMelo Ball (+400) and Obi Toppin (+650). Betting $100 on Okongwu would net you a cool $2,000.
