Milwaukee Bucks: What to expect from their 4 free agent pickups
By Dylan Carter
SG/SF Torrey Craig will wear his heart on his sleeve for the Milwaukee Bucks.
An underrated signing on a dirt-cheap contract, swingman Torrey Craig brings a ton of energy to the lineup. He gives his best effort on every play, asserting himself as a shifty defender with solid anticipation and recovery. For a defensive-minded team like the Bucks, Craig is going to fit in pretty easily.
With this said, there’s a reason why Denver didn’t prioritize bringing Craig back this offseason. He’s a streaky shooter who still has plenty to learn about playing a high-IQ brand of offensive basketball. On one night, he’ll knock down all of his 3-point attempts and he’ll go 1-for-5 on his next. Consistent scoring production isn’t something Bucks fans should expect from Craig from the start.
Of course, there’s a Giannis factor to consider. Playing with the reigning two-time MVP makes the game a bit easier, but Craig also just played off of Nikola Jokic — A more talented passer than the Greek Freak. Entering a new situation isn’t going to fix all of his issues, but Budenholzer should help amplify Craig’s positive traits while covering up his deficiencies.
Craig’s hustle remains one of his strongest abilities and that’s not one you can teach. A solid rebounder and help defender in a halfcourt setting, Craig is going to channel his athleticism to make impact plays down the stretch. At 29-years-old, there’s not a lot of room for Torrey Craig to grow into the player Nuggets fans previously hoped he would be.
Even with that being his case, Craig knows how to make an impact and he’ll shock Bucks fans from time to time with his play.
