Shooting guard Bryn Forbes makes sense for the Milwaukee Bucks’ offense.

Just like his new head coach, Mike Budenholzer, Bryn Forbes is a successful byproduct of the San Antonio Spurs’ development system. Beloved by storied head coach Gregg Popovich, Bryn scrapped and clawed for every opportunity in the professional ranks, earning multiple short-term deals in the River City before asserting himself as a full-time starter for two seasons.

It was in that role that we learned of the cap on Forbes’ potential. No successful team should ever rely on Forbes as a full-time starter unless they face widespread injury or extenuating circumstances. However, Forbes is an unrelenting competitor whose commitment to his team and craft make him a worthy adversary on a nightly basis.

Forbes will be afforded luxuries he’d never imagined in San Antonio. Having a player with Giannis’ gravity opens up the floor for someone like Forbes to thrive. A career-40 percent 3-point marksman, Forbes’ 3-point percentage dropped 3.8 percent from his third season to his fourth. Much of this can be credited to the Spurs’ inconsistent approach to halfcourt offense and amplified by players going in-and-out of the rotation all season long.

There wasn’t enough consistency or a go-to star for Forbes to play off of. Though DeMar DeRozan made his job easier, neither contributed much on defense and the team suffered for it.

In Milwaukee, there are defensive-minded players surrounding Forbes so that he doesn’t have to worry about it quite as much. Bryn has become quite the shot creator, using his quickness and size to his advantage when generating triples and fading mid-range jumpers in the halfcourt. He’ll knock down a considerable percentage of his shot attempts and is sure to come up clutch on a few occasions during the impending season in Milwaukee.

The most common thread between Forbes and his new team is that each party has a lot to prove. Ultimately, that could be the factor that turns this marriage into a great success story for everyone involved.
