With the San Antonio Spurs missing the playoffs for the first time this century, they need to step up. Here are 3 season goals for Dejounte Murray.
Dejounte Murray has grown as a player since being taken by the San Antonio Spurs with the 29th pick in the 2016 Draft. He struggled for minutes during his rookie season before stepping into the starters role for more than half his second season.
Then, during a preseason game against the Houston Rockets in 2018, Murray went down with a knee injury. Due to tearing his ACL, he would miss the entirety of the 2018-19 season. So the question was, how would Murray come back?
Well, last season Murray came back and had the best season of his young career. He averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in 25.6 minutes per game, all career-highs.
Due to the Spurs missing the playoffs for the first time this century, there is going to be a focus on getting back to the postseason in 2020-21. Murray is going to play a huge part in this future considering that he starts his four year, $64 million contract extension in the 2020-21 season.
Murray needs to get back to his 2017-18 level defense where he was named to the All-Defensive Team, the youngest player ever to achieve this honor. This was one area that the Spurs fell down last season and it is up to Murray and the young core to get them back.
With all of this in mind, let’s take a look and the three goals for Dejounte Murray for the 2020-21 season.
