Convince Giannis Antetokounmpo he should stay in Milwaukee

The elephant in the room is the impending free agency of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The additions of Jrue Holiday, D.J. Augustin and Bobby Portis are ultimately a coordinated effort to show the Greek Freak that the Milwaukee Bucks organization is in win-now mode.

If the Milwaukee Bucks manage to make the NBA Finals next season, it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which he walks away in free agency and joins another team. However, if the team suffers a postseason disappointment similar to their ending to the 2020 season it’s hard to see him staying.

The organization has inserted one of the best coaches in the league and signed several veteran players with important playoff experience to the roster. They have another consistent All-Star in the locker room in Khris Middleton and they’ve publicly stated they are going all in for an NBA championship this season. On the surface, they’ve made all the right moves.

Now the ball is in Antetokounmpo’s court. If he believes the Bucks are the right organization for him to cement his legacy, he will stay in Milwaukee and try to win championships there. It’s up to the organization to prove to him that’s where he should be. If this off-season is any indication, they are certainly moving in the right direction.
