The Eastern Conference is getting stronger

Another Eastern Conference team who feels they underachieved last season is the Philadelphia 76ers. After being eliminated in the first round by the Boston Celtics, they’ve been one of the busiest organizations in the league this off-season. They hired Daryl Morey as their new general manager and made Doc Rivers their new head coach.

Both men recently moved on from their previous positions (Morey left the Houston Rockets by choice while Rivers was fired by the LA Clippers) but both have shown the ability to perform well and are both well respected throughout the league. Veteran player acquisitions Dwight Howard and Seth Curry serve to add depth to a team who feels that Ben Simmons’ injury stopped them from showing their true potential last season.

No team in the league is more excited about their immediate future than the Brooklyn Nets. If the games were played on paper, the Nets would be a lock to reach next year’s NBA Finals. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will be at full strength and they join a team that was able to make the playoffs without them last season. Add to that the fact that Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash is the team’s new head coach and it appears Brooklyn will be tough for anyone to beat in a seven game series.

Not to be outdone, the Miami Heat, reigning champions of the Eastern Conference, took care of business in their own right this off-season. Not only did they re-sign veteran guard Goran Dragic, they also secured the services of All-Star big man Bam Adebayo, signing him to a max contract extension. If that wasn’t enough, the Heat added “3 and D” specialist Avery Bradley to the mix for good measure.

Milwaukee considers themselves the class of the conference, even though they’re yet to reach the NBA Finals as currently constructed. If they want to make that goal a reality, they’re going to be prepared for a fight. The road ahead through the Eastern Conference got a lot tougher this offseason.
