The Philadelphia 76ers revolutionized their outlook this offseason. Let’s take a look at their projected starting five and rank those players.
No team seemed more stuck in place than the Philadelphia 76ers when the 2019-20 season ended. They had two stars in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons who in theory were poor fits. They had two contracts that were deemed untradable, belonging to Tobias Harris and Al Horford.
It seemed like running it back and hoping somebody could rehabilitate their value was the only way forward. But then, Daryl Morey hit the market after leaving the Houston Rockets, and the Sixers pounced by hiring him as their president of basketball operations.
Morey didn’t waste any time putting his mark on things, doing the impossible and trading Horford and draft assets to the OKC Thunder for Danny Green. He then traded Josh Richardson to the Dallas Mavericks for Seth Curry.
Suddenly a team that seemed doomed to another season of mediocrity with a roster that didn’t fit together had a new lease on life, and Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons were surrounded by deadly shooters. That’s a roster that can work in the modern NBA, and it may put the Sixers in a position to challenge for the Eastern Conference title next season.
We’ll take a look at the projected starting five for the Philadelphia 76ers, and we’ll rank them from best to worst as things stand now, just days before training camp is set to begin.
