The rebuilding New York Knicks will be active players in the trade market, meaning that some familiar faces might be on their way out.

The 2020 offseason gave us a quiet New York Knicks experience as opposed to the usual free agency frenzy that goes along with the Big Apple. Given the kind of players that were available via free agency, that is considered an accomplishment.

Instead of splashing around James Dolan’s money, the front office decided to continue building from within. They drafted well, made some excellent coaching changes and ended up signing a series of role players to surround that young core once again.

Over the past decade or so, the Knicks have made numerous selections in the top 10 of the NBA Draft. Some managed to pan out, while others are, to this day, struggling to find their role on the team.

The bright side of being involved in the draft lottery every year is that you always get another chance at drafting the next star of the franchise. This is the chance to draft the guy that fills whatever needs the previous picks didn’t.

As logic would have it, the arrival of young prospects might mean that some of the older, less evolving prospects might be on their way out of the roster. Sure, not every player gets to reach the max potential. In New York’s case, the roster is filled with a bunch of these dudes.

The best thing the New York Knicks could do is sell these players while their trade value is still relatively high. Exchanging a few names for future draft picks or even an unsettled star like Victor Oladipo could be enough to turn this franchise around.
