No. 3 – Philadelphia 76ers
Daryl Morey, the newly appointed general manager for the Philadelphia 76ers, wasted no time making a strong first impression this offseason. Since officially being hired early this month, Morey has made a slew of moves to reshape this Philadelphia roster for the better. If he believes there is more to be done, targeting Lou Williams from the LA Clippers makes genuine sense.
First of all, Philadelphia’s bench was among the worst in terms of scoring this season. They rounded out the regular season scoring just 32.8 bench points per game, 26th in the entire association. The addition of Williams could surely provide a much-needed scoring spark in the second unit while simultaneously bolstering Philadelphia’s paper-thin depth at the point guard position.
Of course, Williams also spent the first seven seasons of his career with the 76ers after they selected him No. 45 overall in the 2005 NBA Draft. Pursuing a reunion could be beneficial for both sides, as Williams gets a fresh start in a familiar setting and Philadelphia lands another floor spacing point guard to alleviate pressure off their stars offensively.
Morey is also quite familiar with Lou Williams, as he negotiated the trade that brought him to the Houston Rockets in 2017 when he was their general manager. Now pulling strings for the Philadelphia 76ers, Morey could look to continue his aggressive roster revamping this offseason by making a move for Williams, as he addresses some of the team’s biggest needs.
