The reality of a John Wall trade for the Washington Wizards

John Wall wants out of Washington. He may still feel that he’s still a franchise player and views Bradley Beal’s standing within the organization as an afront to that status. If Wall wants to have a team to himself he’ll have to face a cold reality. To get out of Washington it’ll require another team actually wanting him.

Wall has played just 73 games over the last three seasons and is returning from an Achilles tear, an injury that is notorious for ending a player’s productive years. NBA teams are not lining up to acquire a player in John Wall’s situation without seeing him produce for an extended period of time.

As it currently stands, for John Wall to be traded the Wizards will have to include assets as compensation for the favor of taking on Wall’s contract. Almost no player has a lower trade value right now than Wall, and the Wizards aren’t going to give up a treasure trove of assets to just be rid of him.

What is unfolding in Washington is a tragic story of a man who is not what he once was but has yet to come to terms with reality. Wizards fans should hope that Wall can regain some of his former magic for the team but mostly for themselves. Wall is at crossroads in his career and as a consequence in his life. I hope he comes back and figures everything out, whether it’s in Washington, Orlando, or Shanghai. I’m rooting for John Wall to make it all the way back.
