The Phoenix Suns have had an outstanding offseason, and suddenly they’ve generated a Big 3 for young star Devin Booker. Let’s grade the expected starters.
It’s safe to say nobody expected to see the Phoenix Suns end up as one of the winners of the 2020 offseason, but here we are. They’ve pulled off some of the best moves we’ve seen and ended up with one of the best players to get traded in the form of Chris Paul.
He’ll join forces with Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, and the Suns suddenly have their own version of a Big 3. Mind you, it’s not going to be a triumvirate that will push them to a championship like the LeBron-Wade-Bosh and Steph-Klay-Dray combinations of years past, but the days of the Phoenix Suns being pushovers are over. They’re probably a playoff lock now, and they have a decent shot at pushing for homecourt advantage in the first round.
They’ve made some other sharp moves, like signing Jae Crowder to a three-year contract, and Langston Galloway and E’Twaun Moore signed one-year deals. The Suns also selected Jalen Smith out of Maryland with the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft.
It’s been a productive offseason for a team that finished last season on an insane tear, winning all eight games they played in the NBA bubble. End-of-season momentum rarely matters year to year, but with the recency of their performance just a few months ago now, it may have played a significant role in the interest of players like Chris Paul.
Now that the dust has more or less settled for the Suns, let’s take a look at the roster with the purpose of projecting and ranking the starting five (and thus their new Big 3).
