Utah Jazz: Buy and sell on every free agent this offseason
Emmanuel Mudiay
The former Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks point guard found a niche in Utah this season. He came off the bench as a reserve to Mike Conley and ran the offense well. His numbers may not have been as good as his last Knicks season but his impact was greater.
Mudiay played half the minutes with the Jazz this season and his raw numbers basically halved. However, it was his efficiency that benefitted the Jazz the most. In fact, it was the first time in his career that Mudiay has shot the ball at above 50 percent in the effective field goal percentage metric.
Mudiay shot the ball well from the field, shooting a career-high 46.2 percent, which was a lot higher than his career 40.1 percent. From deep Mudiay had his best full season going at 34.5 percent compared to his career number of 32.3 percent.
When Exum was traded, Mudiay took on the role as the only backup point guard and the Jazz improved as a team. Clarkson’s impact was huge but Mudiay simply ran the team better than Exum.
So the question needs to be asked, do the Jazz re-sign Mudiay in free agency or not. If they can get him at a veteran’s minimum, they are not going to get better production at this value.
Verdict – Buy
