Tyrese Haliburton brings versatility to the Sacramento Kings
With the selection of Tyrese Haliburton, how does this help the Sacramento Kings? They already have a point guard in De’Aaron Fox. Why invest a top pick on another one?
When analyzing this draft class, I do not think there is another player that is more versatile than Haliburton. Offensively, Haliburton was a facilitator during his time with the Cyclones where he was successful in creating shots for himself and his teammates. But with that said, Haliburton was also efficient in playing off the ball where he spaced the floor well and was reliable in hitting standstill perimeter shots.
Defensively, it gets even better. Haliburton displayed incredible basketball instincts which made him a great team defender at the collegiate level. In terms of measurements, he does stand at 6’5″ and has a wingspan of 7’0″ which gives him the length to defend multiple positions at the professional level. Although Haliburton is currently undersized, that is something that can be fixed as his body will fill out with age.
Although Haliburton is technically a point guard, he is someone that can fit into the Kings’ offense comfortably. When playing with Fox, he can play off the ball and still score and make smart decisions, and when Fox needs to take a break, Haliburton can take over as the main ball handler. With him on the roster, it nows gives Luke Walton more flexibility on both ends when coming up with different lineups. The Kings needed more versatility and another playmaker on the roster. They got exactly that with Haliburton.
